The full day off-shore (4am-3pm) trip offers the chance to catch big game fish such as Tuna, Dolphin (Mahi), Wahoo, and Marlin. These fish usually live between twenty and forty miles from land and require a traveling time of up to two hours.

The Off-Shore Fishing Adventure

Set out before sunrise and experience the thrill of the open ocean on our full-day off-shore fishing excursion (4:00 AM – 3:00 PM). This trip is your ticket to chasing legendary big game species like tuna, mahi-mahi (dolphin), wahoo, and marlin—found 20 to 40 miles off the coast. The journey includes up to two hours of travel, giving you time to soak in the beauty of the Atlantic before the real action begins.

Beyond the chase, you’ll have the chance to bottom fish for deep-sea favorites like grouper, tilefish, and sea bass. And while you’re out there, keep your eyes peeled—you might just spot whales, porpoises, or sea turtles surfacing alongside the boat.

Whether you’re an avid angler or just looking to cross something epic off your Outer Banks bucket list, this is an unforgettable ocean adventure.

To make the most of your off-shore fishing adventure, be sure to pack:

  • Food & Drinks – Bring enough to keep you fueled and hydrated throughout the day.

  • Sunscreen – The sun can be strong out on the water, even early in the morning.

  • Weather-Appropriate Clothing – Layers are key! Mornings can be cool, and afternoons warm up quickly.

  • Cooler Space – You’ll want room to take home your fresh catch!

  • Tip for the First Mate – A 15–20% tip is customary and greatly appreciated.

We usually reel in more than enough fish to go around, and one thing’s for sure—you’re in for a fun, memorable day on the water. It’s not often we come back empty-handed!

The Phideaux is a 52-foot Custom Carolina sportfishing vessel, handcrafted in 1988 by legendary builder Ricky Scarborough and fully refurbished in 2017 to offer modern comfort with classic Outer Banks character. Docked at Wanchese Marina, the boat features heat and A/C for year-round charters and is built for speed—so you spend more time fishing and less time getting there. Operated by brothers Jamie and Jeff Reibel, Phideaux Fishing is one of the few full-time, year-round charter services on the Outer Banks. With decades of experience, top-notch amenities, and personal service directly from Captain Jamie, every trip aboard the Phideaux is a first-class fishing adventure.

The Doghouse is a 61-foot custom Carolina sportfishing vessel and one of the premier charter boats on the Outer Banks—best known for its six-season run on Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. The Phideaux: Captain Jamie Reibel has been fishing out of Oregon Inlet for over three decades and has captained the PHIDEAUX since 1988. From inshore catches like Spanish mackerel and bluefish to offshore big game like tuna, mahi-mahi, marlin, and wahoo, his expertise covers it all. In 1995, Jamie purchased the boat and turned Phideaux Fishing into a family-run operation with his brother Jeff Reibel—an experienced, U.S. Coast Guard-licensed first mate—by his side. The Reibels fish year-round for a living, giving them unmatched knowledge of local waters and ensuring every trip is guided by true professionals who live and breathe the sport.

The Doghouse: Captain Britton Shackelford is a seasoned Outer Banks waterman with a passion for fishing and a personality as bold as the Atlantic. If you end up with more fish than you can handle, don’t worry—our crew can help distribute any extras to local community members who’d be glad to enjoy the catch. While specific fish cleaning services aren’t mentioned, you’re welcome to ask the crew about cleaning options or local recommendations to prepare your catch for the grill or freezer.
