Gain a new perspective of the Outer Banks with one of our high flying aero adventures! We offer flights in both Cessna airplanes and an original WWII bi-plane trainer.
Where do flights leave from?
Flights depart from Dare County Airport (also known as Outer Banks Aviation Hangar) located at 407 Airport Rd, Manteo (Roanoke Island), just past the NC Aquarium. The hangar is on the left side of the airport parking lot.
What time should I arrive for my flight?
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled flight time.
What are the available tour options and their pricing?
- Standard Tour (30 minutes): $190
- Tour includes a flight over Manteo, Roanoke Sound, Wright Memorial, Jockey’s Ridge, and south to Oregon Inlet, with a pass by the Bodie Island Lighthouse before returning to Manteo.
- Expanded Tour (1 hour): $310
- A one-hour flight over the Wright Memorial, First Flight Airport, Pine Island, and the Bodie Island Lighthouse, continuing south to just north of Rodanthe, before returning to Manteo.
Note: All prices are per flight (not per person), and flights are available for 1-3 passengers.
What kind of aircraft is used for the tours?
Flights are conducted in a closed-cabin Cessna 172 airplane, which can accommodate up to three people.
What are the weight restrictions?
- Maximum combined weight for all passengers is 575 lbs per flight.
What is the seating configuration in the airplane?
- 1 passenger in the front (next to the pilot)
- 2 passengers in the back (behind the pilot and first passenger)
Are there any other restrictions or special requirements for the tours?
- Minimum Age: There is no minimum age, but children under 10 must fly with an adult.
- Weight Limit: The combined weight of all passengers must not exceed 575 lbs.
- Waivers: All passengers are required to sign waivers before the flight.
- Pets: Dogs are allowed if they are well-behaved and can either be held by the owner or sit in a seat alone during the flight.

Additionally, you may spot marine life such as dolphins, porpoises, and even whales, especially when the water is clear.

It is strongly recommended to call and confirm availability with Kitty Hawk Kites if you’re booking within 48 hours of your desired flight time.
