27th ANNUAL ROGALLO KITE FESTIVAL: JUNE 13-14, 2009

Nags Head, NC (June 2009) -Kitty Hawk Kites is hosting the 27th annual Rogallo Kite Festival on June 13-14, 2009, on Jockey’s Ridge and at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Nags Head, from 10AM to 4PM each day.

The Rogallo Kite Festival consists of two days of signature kite flying presented by Kitty Hawk Kites. Each day, spectators can watch large single line kites soar above Jockey’s Ridge, the largest living sand dune on the east coast. Each kite varies in shape and size, including a 100 ft. octopus, an 80 ft. scuba diver and a 50 ft. fish.

In addition to the signature flying, Kitty Hawk Kites will offer free stunt and power kite lessons on the dunes throughout the event. Kite making and face painting will be offered at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Nags Head, directly across from the festival, from 10am until 2pm each day. All activities are free and open to the public.

The Rogallo Kite Festival is held each year to honor Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. His inventions started the sport of hang gliding and his designs have carried over into the stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today.
