Hang 1 Training is available all year, but we also offer 3 weeks of Hang 1 specific training in a “Camp” setting. These Camps include 7 nights accommodations at a local beach house, where you would share the residence with your fellow campers.

Our camps are intensive, challenging and fun. The instruction is personalized, accelerating the learning process. The camp is designed to teach all of the necessary skills needed to earn a Beginner Rating otherwise known as a Hang 1. Each rating is regulated by the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA). If you don’t achieve your rating at the end of the week, additional lessons can be purchased at a discounted rate.
Camp Estimated Itinerary (subject to wind/weather conditions)
- Day 1 (SUN)*: Check-in at the Flight School and your accommodations
- Day 2 (MON): Beginner Dune Lesson + Advanced Dune Lesson
- Day 3 (TUE): Advanced Dune Lesson + Advanced Dune Lesson
- Day 4 (WED): Advanced Dune Lesson + Advanced Dune Lesson
- Day 5 (THU): continued Dune Lesson Training as needed
- Day 6 (FRI): continued Dune Lesson Training as needed
- Day 7 (SAT): Practical and Written Exams
- Day 8 (SUN): Check-out from your accommodations in the morning

The USHPA requires a level of maturity commensurate with the Hang 1 rating. We strongly recommend pilots be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 100lbs for advanced training. Please call the Hang Gliding School at (252) 441-2426 with questions.
