Take your family horseback riding on the beach for a unique Outer Banks experience. Explore the Buxton Woods Coastal Reserve and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Hatteras Island by horseback. You will see the natural beauty of Hatteras Island from a completely different perspective!

Take a guided Horseback tour through a Maritime Forest, which is truly unique to the Outer Banks. After your 45-minute trail ride through Buxton Woods, you’ll ride your horse over the last sand dune and then ride on the beach! It is an exhilarating feeling to ride so close to the ocean. You’ll also have the opportunity to soak in the beauty of the area. With Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point off to the left and miles of pristine beaches to ride and enjoy, this horseback tour is one to remember!

Are there age or weight restrictions for this activity?

Minimum Age: The youngest rider we can accommodate is 10 years old.
Height Requirement: Riders must be at least 4’8″ tall.
Weight Limit: 200 lbs (strictly enforced).
Riders between 175-200 lbs should call ahead to ensure a suitable horse is available for their ride.

What should I wear?

Footwear: Riders must wear closed-toed shoes.
Clothing: Long pants are recommended for your comfort.
For early morning rides, a light layered jacket is suggested.

What should I bring?

Camera: Bring a small camera. We’re happy to take group photos on the beach for you.
(Note: Video cameras are not allowed.)
Bug spray and sunscreen are recommended.
Purses or backpacks are not permitted on the ride.

Are waivers required?

Yes, waivers are required for all participants.

Participants under the age of 18 will need a parent or legal guardian to sign the waiver.

Is this ride safe?

Yes, this ride is safe when the tour operators’ recommendations are followed. Please review the safety guidelines below:

Helmets: Helmets are available for all riders and required for riders under 16 years of age.
Horse Match: We will do our best to match you with a horse based on your riding ability. Please do not overestimate your ability.
Physical Condition: All riders should be in good physical condition. If you have any concerns, please ask your physician for permission.
Health Conditions:
- People with back or knee problems or hip replacements should consult a doctor before riding.
- Pregnant women cannot ride.
- If you have any questionable medical issues, please ask for your physician’s permission.
